Paul McCartney has recently turned 70 and that makes this a good time to backtrack to my first experience seeing Sir Paul live, a year ago. I have never been a fan of big shows. I’d rather see a band when they are easily confined to a venue no bigger than the Metro (across the street from Wrigley). Despite this fact, earlier in the year I was having a conversation with a friend about how I would always regret not seeing McCartney live, if I never ended up doing it. Serendipitously, within weeks of this conversation, a small McCartney tour was announced and not only would he be playing in Chicago, but he’d be playing at Wrigley Field, which is within walking distance of each of our homes. I failed at getting tickets when they first went on sale, but a couple of hours later they announced a second show. This apparently got by a few people (when I say “people” I mean scalpers) and tickets were very gettable for the additional show. This turned out to be the better of the two set-lists as far as I was concerned if for no other reason than he did I’m Looking Through You only on the second night. The set-list overall was pretty outstanding loading with deeper cuts from Band on the Run as well as usual big ones.
